It’s been almost two weeks since I sent out my survey asking for your feelings about COVID-19.
As we entered month five of the pandemic, I feared you may be burned out on seeing/reading/hearing about it… I know I hit my limit with it sometimes.
But as a health researcher and friend, I was so happy to see that, by and large, Health Kick readers are still concerned about contracting COVID-19 and are making attempts to improve their overall health and wellbeing.
And, of course, I want to help you on your journey.
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Benjamin Franklin said it, and I couldn’t agree more.
So I want to make sure you know about the best ounce of prevention out there… acid/alkaline balance.
You probably remember learning about the pH scale, litmus tests and acids and bases in school. Back then it didn’t mean too much to me, but nowadays acids and bases are on my mind every day…
Why? Because they are the key to staying healthy.
Think of it this way: If you “catch” a stomach virus, everyone you come in contact with will “catch” it too, right? Wrong.
We know it doesn’t happen like that… just like we know not everyone who comes in contact with the coronavirus will get sick or show symptoms.
So, what makes one unlucky person “catch” a virus and another person get off scot-free?
It’s called internal immunity.
You want to rebalance your acid/alkaline pH slightly in favor of alkalinity. This is what our bodies prefer and what boosts internal immunity.
Will doctors tell you this? No, because it’s not part of their medical training.
But you need to know that illness loves acid. It feasts on it.
Sickness is defeated and health is restored by rebuilding and maintaining alkalinity. And you don’t do this with sugar-laced fruit juices or soft drinks…
Sugar, sugar products and artificial sweeteners (except stevia) are highly acid and detrimental to health. In fact, most commercial foods (in a box, bag or can) are acid or acid-forming. No wonder we become sick!
The more imbalanced we become, the more susceptible we are to infections… viruses, fungus or bacteria thrive in an acid body.
When your body is too acidic you’re a sitting duck for illness!
But when your body is in a slightly alkaline state — you can stave off many health problems.
The key to healthy living is keeping your body more alkaline than acidic.
It really is that simple.

Eat fruits and vegetables!
Fruits and vegetables not only contain powerful antioxidants and nutrients for healthy living, they also help keep your body alkaline!
But even if you’re the 1 out of 10 who eats 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day, you’ve got to eat the right ones…
Eating cranberries, plums, peas, corn, olives or squash will provide you with healthy nutrients… but don’t count on them to keep your body alkaline. These fruits and veggies — and many more — leave an acid ash in your cells creating even more acid overload in your body.
It’s not just about eating fruits and vegetables — it’s eating the right alkalizing ones that boost your health!
Carrot juice is established as a rapid alkalizer.
Some other alkaline-forming foods are: Apples, apricots, avocados, banana, beets, broccoli, berries, kale, limes, mangos, mushrooms, mustard greens, nectarines, onions, pineapples, pumpkin seed, raspberry, sea vegetables, sweet potato, tangerine, vegetable juices and watermelon.
Lemons, while they have citric acid, are actually one of the most alkalizing foods around.
Lemons have an unusual property in that they are highly charged with a purer concentration of negatively charged ions, or anions, than any other fruit.
Scientists theorize that this might be why lemons balance other foods and help your body extract energy from them. Plus, lemons give you a boost of the essential minerals that alkalize your body — like potassium — that processed foods, prescription medications and sodas leech from your body.
For an alkalizing sugar, you should stay away from cane sugar and instead use maple syrup or honey, which are both alkalizing, or the natural sweetener stevia.
All the research I’ve read indicates that America is still in the first wave of COVID-19… it’s not over. And on top of that, flu season is just around the corner. Take the time now to get in fighting shape with an ounce of prevention. A pound of cure may be hard to come by for a while.
